Mr. and Mrs. Oliver O. Jenkins of Carlinville marked their 69th wedding anniversary Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins live at 921 South Locust street where they maintain their own home. Both are considered to be in good health and both are reasonably active.
Mrs. Jenkins is the former Miss Myrtle Adcock. She and Mr. Jenkins were married Feb. 24, 1904 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Israel "Doc" Adcock west of Girard with the Rev. W. D. Blaylock officiating. Mr. and Mrs. John Hays of Virden were their attendants.
They lived many years in the Girard, Nilwood and Atwater communities where they were engaged in farming. They moved to Carlinville in 1949 and for a number of years Mr. Jenkins did custodial work in this city.
They have six living children, Carl of Carlinville, Coy and Chester of Alton, Cleo of Wood River, Mrs. Lester (Virginia) Scharfenberg and Mrs. Velda Fitzgerrel, both of Carlinville, besides numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One daughter, Verda Eileen, is deceased.
Mrs. Myrtie Jenkins, 97, of Carlinville, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Mar. 23, at Carlinville Area hospital.
She was born Sept. 27, 1885 in South Otter Township, the daughter of Israel and Sina Hays Adcock. Feb. 24, 1904 in South Otter Township, she married Oliver Oscar Jenkins. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Jenkins was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist church in Carlinville.
Surviving are two daughters, Velda Fitzgerrel and Virginia Scharfenberg, both of Carlinville; three sons, Carl of Clearwater, Fla.; Coy of Godfrey and Cleo of Wood River; 27 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Emmanuel Baptist church in Carlinville and burial was in Union Chapel cemetery. Pastor Don Cameron and Rev. Art McAninch officiated.
Berry Funeral Home, Girard, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials have been designated to the Emmanuel Baptist church in Carlinville.
