Former alderman of city, Joseph J. Gugger dies
Joseph J. Gugger, a former alderman of Carlinville died at 9:05 Monday morning at Carlinville Area hospital following an extended illness. He was 68 years of age.
Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock yesterday (Wednesday) morning at the Wiese-Anderson funeral home where the Rev. Allen Schoff of Carlinville was the officiating minister.
Burial was in Mayfield Memorial Park cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Charles Taynor, Louis Fornero, Ed Schaefer, Angus Timinsky, Edward Lee and Mike Liay.
Mr. Gugger was born March 4, 1911 in Carlinville, a son of Joseph Peter and Eunice Komoros Gugger. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1412 of Carlinville and also the Carlinville Moose Lodge.
He leaves his wife, the former Maxine Frazer [sic]; three sons, Jerry Van Winkle of Niceville, Fla., Joe Gugger of Edwardsville and Chuck Gugger of Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren, Jerry Lee, Valerie, Tom and David Van Winkle and Mrs. Virginia Mobbs of Dallas, Tex.; one great-grandchild, Stephanie Mobbs; two sisters, Mrs. Steve (Marie) Mathias and Mrs. John (Josephine) Hoelting, both of Carlinville, as well as nieces and nephews.
