Cephas Hays, Of Girard, Dies
Girard, Dec. 4--Cephas Hays, 73, retired farmer and resident of North Otter township his entire life, died at 5:10 p. m. Friday in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, where he had been a patient since Nov. 26.
Mr. Hays was born Jan. 31, 1880 the son of John W. and Lucinda England Hays. In 1910 he married the former Ruth Hageler.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Geraldine McElhanon, Springfield; two sons, Donald, Sunol, Calif., and Clifford, Virden; a brother, R. O. Hays, Girard; a sister, Mrs. E. A. Coe, Girard and six grandchildren.
He was a member of the Union Chapel Methodist church and served as North Otter township clerk for nearly 50 years.
The body was removed to the Berry funeral home, Girard. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
