Fred W. Hays, 55, Dies in Home Here

Fred W. Hays, 55, died at 5:17 a. m. today in his home at 2116 North Church street.

Mr. Hays had lived in Decatur since he was 16 years old, coming here from Stonington. He was employed at the Taystee Bakery 14 years. He was a member of St. Thomas' Catholic church and the Holy Name society of the church.

He was born in Winfield, Kan. April 10, 1890, a son of Eugene [sic] and Caroline Workman Hays and was married to Anna Volk Oct. 27, 1911.

He leaves his wife, his father and step-mother of Stonington, 10 children, Mrs. Alberta O'Brien, Mrs. Geraldine Parker, Mrs. Ramona Manley, Mrs. Caroline O'Brien, Fred U. Hays, Calvin, William, Patricia and Cecelia, all of Decatur and Mrs. LaVerna Breeze of Milwaukee, Wis.; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Traughber and Mrs. Jane Traughber, both of Stonington; a step-sister, Mrs. Edna Davis, Champaign and a step-brother, Ralph Gore of Decatur.

The body is at the family home where friends may call after 7 p. m. today. Requiem high mass will be held at 9 a. m. Monday in St. Thomas' church with burial in Calvary cemetery. Morans' funeral home is in charge.
