Howard T. "Shorty" Hayes, 93, of Carlinville died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 26, at Carlinville Area Hospital.
He was born December 5, 1899, in North Otter Township, a son of George B. and Carrie Mayhan [sic] Hayes. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Hayes was a self-employed painter in Carlinville for many years. He was a member of Macoupin County Coonhunters Association and the Painters Union.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 28, at Union Chapel Cemetery west of Girard with the Rev. H. Christopher Sheets officiating.
Heinz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Surviving are a brother, John Hayes of Hallendale, Fla.; a sister, Imogene Thorpe, 504 Bollman Ave., Edwardsville, Ill. 62026; and several nieces and nephews.
