George W. HAYS

Decatur Herald, Saturday, 4 April 1931, page 3 column 7:

George W. Hays, 235 East Condit street, died at 7 o'clock Friday morning in the Wabash Railroad Employes [sic] hospital after an illness of three weeks. He underwent a major operation Saturday. Pneumonia developed following the operation.

Mr. Hays was born south of Moweaqua July 18, 1856, and lived there many years. His first wife died years ago. He was married to Miss Sylvia Smith, Decatur, in 1919. He leaves his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Chris Patient of Decatur, one grandchild and two brothers, Ullysius [sic] of Stonington, and Andrew of Decatur.

Mr. Hays had lived in Decatur for 29 years and had been an employe [sic] of the Wabash for 20 years. He was a member of the First Methodist church, the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, and the Loyal Americans.

Services will be Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in Moran chapel, where the body will remain after 5 o'clock Friday afternoon. Burial will be in Fairlawn cemetery.
