Verner (Pete) Hays, 75, of Texarkana, Texas, died at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3 at Wadley hospital.
He was born Oct. 5, 1908 near Girard, the son of Eli and Emma Shutt Hays. He graduated from Girard High school. He was married to Frances Shields. Mr. Hays was a retired employee of NL Industries in the Baroid division, where he worked for 32 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist church of Texarkana. He had lived in Texarkana for the past 21 years.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Oren of Las Cruces, N.M.; one daughter, Diane Adcock of Bedford, Tex.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Dale Hays of Oregon.
Graveside services and burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Union Chapel cemetery with Dr. O. R. Shields officiating.
