Mrs. Bessie Lea Bettis, 70, died at 9:10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at her home in Nilwood.
She was a daughter of Israel "Doc" and Sina Ellen Hays Adcock and was born in South Otter township Nov. 4, 1893.
She is survived by the husband, Otto; two daughters, Mrs. Velma Schoppe, Mrs. Evelyn Frey; three sons, Jesse, Eldon, and Frank, all of Girard; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Jenkins of Carlinville and Mrs. Fred Hart of Gillespie.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Berry Funeral home in Girard. Rev. Samuel Martin officiated. Burial was in the Girard cemetery.
Pallbearers were William Makler, Carl Hazelwood, Ralph Bacon, Roy Baker, Thomas Barnard, and William Hazelwood.
Mr. and Mrs. Bettis were married Jan. 21, 1914 in Carlinville and she was a resident of Girard and Nilwood community her entire life. She was a member of the Nilwood Baptist church, Home Bureau and Women's Missionary union.
