Charles "Eldon" BETTIS

Charles "Eldon" Bettis, 69, of Girard died at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 1994, at St. John's North in Springfield.

He was born April 19, 1925, in South Otter Township, a son of Otto Lee and Bessie L. Adcock Bettis. He married Hilda E. Miller June 2, 1946, in Girard. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Frey.

Mr. Bettis was a hail adjuster for 20 years for Farmers Mutual Hail of Iowa and was a 1943 graduate of Girard High School. He was a member of the Girard School Board for 19 years and was a member of the Girard Kiwanis Club, Macoupin County Farm Bureau and Church of the Brethren in Girard.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 13, at Berry Funeral Home in Girard with the Rev. Leon Swigart officiating. Elizabeth Skaggs served as organist.

Burial was in Girard Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Henry Sutton, Wendell Sutton, Virgil Sutton, Wayne Sutton, Glenn Miller, Stanley Miller and Eddie Miller.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Gary E. Bettis and Douglas W. Bettis, both of Girard; a daughter, Mrs. John (Jeanette M.) Early of Girard; four grandchildren; Angela and Jodie Bettis and J.R. and Stephanie Early; two brothers, Jesse Bettis and Frank Bettis, both of Girard; and a sister, Velma Schoppe of Nilwood.

Memorials may be made to the Church of the Brethren in Girard or the Girard Rescue Squad.
