Macoupin County Enquirer, Thursday, 8 November 1951, page 5 column 2:
Mrs. Mary Carney, formerly of Gillespie, died at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Hill of Granite City. Mrs. Carney, 90, suffered a stroke a week ago.
She was born Dec. 31, 1860, near Bunker Hill, a daughter of
Mr.
and
Mrs. William Butler.
She lived in Gillespie and the surrounding area all her life, moving to Granite City seven years ago. Her husband,
William Carney,
died in 1929. The couple had five children, of whom only Mrs. Hill survives.
Also surviving are six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Remains will be sent from Granite City to the Wiese funeral home, Gillespie. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home, the Rev. Homer Young will officiate. Burial will be in Gillespie cemetery.
