Josephine Christian [sic], daughter of Joseph and Magdalene Christian, was born Dec. 14, 1869 on the farm in Polk township where she lived her entire life.

She was united in marriage to Chas. Pursey, June 12, 1890. To this union was born nine children, six sons and three daughters, namely--Jacob and Wesley of Polk township; Carl of St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Lillie Yowell of Polk; Theodore, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Dorothy Sembel, Springfield, Il.; Mrs. Mildred Wills, Litchfield, Il.; Edward and Earl, who reside at home, all of whom with her husband, survive her.

She was of a family of five, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Geiger and one brother, Joseph Gugger, preceding her in death.

She was called Home to rest Saturday, Jan. 3, 1931 at 5:30 o'clock p. m. at the age of 61 years and 21 days, after a long and weary illness.

She leaves also to mourn her loss, three grandchildren and two brothers, John Christian of Carlinville, Il.; Jacob Gugger of Bunker Hill, with other relatives and friends.

She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical church in Carlinville.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Evangelical Church, Jan. 6th, 1931, Rev. Ott officiating.

Interment was made in Mayfield Memorial Park. The following nephews acted as pall bearers: Philip Geiger, George Lewis and Willis Pursey, Joseph and George Gugger. The flower girls were Helen and Hazel Pursey, Marie, Josephine, Orpha, Opal and Laura Gugger, all nieces of the deceased.
