Aaron "Joe" HAYS

Aaron (Joe) Hays, prominent farmer residing west of the Girard community and lifelong resident of Macoupin county, died Tuesday morning at the family residence following a brief illness. He was 75 years old.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at 11 o'clock this (Thursday) morning at Union Chapel church west of Girard, with Rev. E. A. McFarland officiating. Interment will be in Union Chapel cemetery.

Mr. Hays was born on a farm near Girard January 10, 1865. He was active in farming circles at his recent residence for 53 years.

Surviving are his wife, Matilda E. Hays; two sons, Coy L. Hays of Girard, and Lloyd M. Hays of Virden; five sisters, Mrs. Millie Adcock and Mrs. Sina Adcock, both of Nilwood; Mrs. Margaret Walk and Mrs. Lucinda Walk, both of Palmyra; and Mrs. Mary Jane Crump of Fairview, Oklahoma; four brothers, Eli and Marshall Hays, both of Girard; and Charles and John Hays, both of Virden; eight grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
